Miracles, Wunder in the German language are highly regarded in German football. It all began with the ‘Miracle of Berne’ when the perceived underdogs beat Hungary 3-2 to win the World Cup. A decade and a half later, it was the ‘Miracle of Leon’ in Mexico when West Germany beat England in the quarterfinal of the World Cup in a replay of the famous 1966 Wembley final. Another miracle happened to German football in 1972 when they first managed to beat England at Wembley.
